SCREENWRITING WORKSHOP
with Nanouk Leopold and Sara Rajaei
Thursday, March 26, we are hosting a special BUDDY CAREER DAY!
A screenwriting workshop in collaboration with Movies That Matter and Scope!
The workshop session will be led by Golden Calf–winning screenwriters and directors Nanouk Leopold and Sara Rajaei. During this workshop, they will share insights into the writing process behind Sara’s first feature film "Headless Trees" and discuss how Nanouk contributed in the early stages as a script coach. It will be a personal and inspiring conversation about developing a screenplay. Participants will also take part in an interactive writing exercise.

Movies that Matter Festival 2026 takes place from March 20–28, 2026, in The Hague, Netherlands, focusing on films that highlight human rights and social justice. The 2026 festival features competitive programs including the Grand Jury Documentary, Grand Jury Fiction, Activist Lens, Justice Frame, and Dutch Focus.

Nanouk Leopold
Nanouk Leopold is a Dutch film director and screenwriter known for her understated, psychologically nuanced films. She studied at the Netherlands Film Academy and gained international recognition with films such as Guernsey (2005) and Brownian Movement (2010), which premiered at major international film festivals. Her most recent film, Whitetail (2026), is currently screening in cinemas and continues her distinctive minimalist style and sharp exploration of human relationships.

Sara Rajaei
Sara Rajaei is an Iranian-Dutch artist and filmmaker based in the Netherlands. Her work addresses the notion of time and reflects on the absence of imagery, oral history, and physical/psychological space. She earned her BA in Visual Arts from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and was formerly a resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Her work has been shown at film festivals and art venues worldwide. Her film City of Poets won the 2026 European Short Film - Prix Vimeo.
